Q: The display on my QuickCheck unit is frozen or has gone blank.

A: Remove the battery from the unit for a full 30 seconds and then replace it. If this doesn’t work, try a new battery. If the display is still not working properly, contact Technical Services at support@sensitech.com or 800-843-8367.

Q: My unit’s LCD is reading “Cannot store.” What do I do?

A: Your QuickCheck unit’s memory is full. Download the readings into QuickCheck Manager, and then purge the readings out of the unit.

Q: My unit is beeping and says, “Case is too hot.” What do I do?

A: Bring the unit into a cooler area for five to ten minutes to cool it down.

Q: My unit won’t let me enter any keys, including Clear and Enter.

A: The quickest way to resolve this problem is to remove the battery compartment cover and disconnect the battery. Reconnect it after a few seconds. If the problem persists, contact Technical Services at support@sensitech.com or 800-843-8367.

Q: Does the QuickCheck unit have a low battery warning?

A: Yes, on both the LCD screen and within QuickCheck Manager’s Key Definitions dialog box.

Q: Can I replace the QuickCheck unit’s battery myself?

A: Yes. It uses a standard 9V battery. To access the battery compartment, simply remove the two screws holding the battery cover in place on the back of the unit.

Q: Will I lose the data I stored if the battery is low and has to be changed?

A: No, you will not lose your stored data, though you may need to reset the date and time afterwards.

Q: How do I change the Date, Time and Scale on my QuickCheck unit?

A: To set the options, press the top-left and bottom-left keys on the QuickCheck’s keypad at the same time. Each setting is adjusted by pressing the Enter or Clear key. The LCD panel will indicate what action to take.

Note: Although time can be displayed in either 24-hour or a.m./p.m. format, you must set the time in 24-hour format. For example, Hour 1 = 1:00 a.m. and Hour 13 = 1:00 p.m.

Q: How do I turn off the QuickCheck unit?

A: After a period of inactivity, the unit will “go to sleep” (turn itself off). The amount of time before the unit goes to sleep is controlled by the Power Off Time Interval setting in the Configuration view of the Unit Settings dialog box.

Q: What are the system requirements for installing QuickCheck Manager?

A: The system requirements are:

  • 3_” diskette drive and/or CD ROM
  • VGA or higher resolution video adapter
  • Microsoft mouse or compatible device
  • 35MB of available disk space

Q: Lately, QuickCheck Manager has been running a lot slower than it did when I first installed it. It takes minutes to perform a search when it previously took seconds. Why is this happening, and what can I do to correct it?

A: As you add more and more temperature readings to the QuickCheck Manager database, the software will naturally take longer to load and to perform tasks such as searches and reporting. Keep your database up to date by periodically purging old readings.

Q: I changed some of my key definitions and then downloaded readings. The readings I downloaded showed the wrong key definition names instead of what they were originally. Why?

A: When downloading readings, the software compares the reading to the key definition table. By changing a key definition, you are effectively changing any reading in the unit that was taken using that key definition. To avoid this problem, always download readings before changing key definitions.

Q: I just changed the date range on the Readings View screen, but my list did not change to reflect the new date range. What am I doing wrong?

A: In order to have the list updated, you need to click the binoculars icon on the toolbar.

Q: I have more than 10 items that I would like to see on the product or location graphs. How can I look at more than 10?

A: Select Administration, and then Preferences. There is an option to increase the maximum number of pie slices on the graph.

Q: I have set up my QuickCheck unit to record all readings in Fahrenheit, but when I download the data, the values are all in Celsius. How do I look at the values in Fahrenheit?

A: Select Administration, and then Preferences. There is an option to view your results in either Fahrenheit or Celsius.

Q: How many readings can I take before I have to download them from the QuickCheck unit?

A: The QuickCheck unit can store more than 1,700 readings.

Q: How many menu items can I program into each QuickCheck key?

A: Each key can hold up to 16 levels, but the QuickCheck unit has a maximum of 200 definitions total—197 of which can be programmed.

Q: Is the QuickCheck unit dishwasher-safe? If not, how should I clean it?

A: This unit is not dishwasher-safe. Although it meets the NEMA-5 standard of watertightness, it should not be soaked in a sink or cleaned in a dishwasher. We recommend cleaning the unit with a damp cloth.

Q: How many letters can I use to define a product?

A: Eight alphanumeric characters are allowed, including spaces and numbers.

Q: How many letters can I use to define a location?

A: Fifteen alphanumeric characters are allowed, including spaces and numbers.

Q: I use Touch Tags to take many of my readings. I purchased both text and temperature tags, but they got mixed up. They all look alike to me. How do I tell them apart?

A: Look at the number on the right side of the tag, directly below the “s” in “Dallas”—08 indicates a text tag, whereas 10 indicates a temperature tag.

Q: I am trying to program my temperature tags, but it is not working?

A: Temperature tags can not be programmed, only text tags can be programmed.

Q: How do I stop the unit from beeping?

A: Press the Enter key on the QuickCheck unit to save the data or clear the LCD. If the unit continues to beep, note the warning on the LCD. If there is no warning, remove the battery and replace it. If it still beeps, contact Technical Services at support@sensitech.com or 800-843-8367.

Q: I keep getting strange readings or “Probe Disconnected” when the probe is attached.

A: There may be a problem with your probe. Try using a probe that is known to be functioning properly. If this doesn’t work, contact Technical Services at support@sensitech.com or 800-843-8367.

Q: My QuickCheck unit seems to be out of calibration. How can I tell for sure?

A: While the QuickCheck unit is self-calibrating, a reduction in connectivity with the probe can cause improper readings. Try a different probe on the unit. If it still seems to be temping incorrectly, we recommend conducting an ice bath test.

  • This test represents one of the most stable testing environments that can be easily set up and provides a high degree of accuracy. The results of the test will be accurate to within +/- 1°C. The procedure is based on recommendations by the National Institute of Standards Technology (NIST).
    1. Fill a small container with ice and distilled water, until the water is level with the top of the ice. Allow the ice/water mixture to stabilize for 15 minutes.
    2. Submerge the probe into the middle of the ice/water mixture. Ensure that at least three inches of the probe are submerged in the ice/water mixture.
    3. QuickCheck will display a steady temperature of 32° F +/-2° (0° C +/-1°) while the probe is submerged in the ice/water mixture.
  • Only the readings obtained while the probe is in the ice bath are relevant for this test. If you have any questions regarding this procedure or your results, contact Technical Services at support@sensitech.com or 800-843-8367.

Q: My QuickCheck unit is broken. What should I do?

A: If the suggestions above do not solve the problem, contact our Technical Services Department at the number listed below or email us at support@sensitech.com. We will be happy to answer any questions you have or give you step-by-step instructions for sending your QuickCheck unit in for repairs, if necessary.
