TempTale® Products - FAQ
Q: How does the TempTale monitor record dates and times? The TempTale 4 monitor has an internal clock. The dates and times for readings are derived from this internal clock. Q: What is the response time for the TempTale monitor? A: Response time depends on several factors, including airflow, temperature change and pressure. Since environments will differ, Sensitech does not claim a specification for response time. Q: How are TempTale monitors tested? A: Each monitor is put through an accuracy test before it is sent to a customer. The testing is performed with a NIST-traceable temperature and/or humidity chamber. All units receive a three-point accuracy test.
Q: How often do monitors need to be calibrated? A: The TempTale product design uses a self-calibrating circuit. This means that every time a monitor is started, the microprocessor determines the circuit resistance by using a high-precision resistor in place of the thermistor. This allows the unit to compensate for any effects the electronic circuit has on accurate temperature readings over the life of the product. A properly assembled unit will hold an accuracy of between +/- 0.5°C and +/- 1°C depending on the temperature range in which it is used. Therefore, a TempTale monitor does not need to be “recalibrated” over its useful lifetime. Q: Can a TempTale Monitor be plugged/seated into an interface when not in use? A: No. Be sure to remove the monitor from the interface when prompted. Leaving the monitor connected when not downloading or configuring will unnecessarily drain the monitor’s battery. Q: Can I put the TempTale D (Dry Ice) monitor directly into the dry ice? A: No. Only the probe is designed for this environment. The actual monitor will not provide acceptable performance if the battery and/or other components are exposed to temperatures below –30°C.
Q: What is the life cycle/expectancy of a TempTale multi-use monitor? A: A multi-use TempTale has a one-year warranty. We guarantee the battery life and monitor accuracy for one year.
Q: What are the system requirements for installing TempTale Manager
(TTM)?
Q: What operating system (version of Windows) is required to run TTM?
Q: I don’t have a serial port on my PC. Is there a USB alternative? A: We do not have a USB-compatible interface at this time. However, there are several USB-serial adapters that have been tested for use with TempTale Manager. Q: Do I need to uninstall my previous version to upgrade TTM? A: Yes, always be sure to uninstall any previous versions of TTM software prior to installing your TTM upgrade. Use the unInstallShield in the TempTale Manager program group. Note: The uninstaller will NOT remove the TTM data files you have saved using TTM. When uninstalling, the uninstaller may ask you if you wish to delete a file that is being shared by another program. We STRONGLY recommend selecting NO at this prompt. Q: When I try to download a monitor, the PC cannot establish a connection with the interface. I am running Windows 2000 (or Windows NT) and have a PC interface unit. What is happening? A: The PC interface unit is not supported on Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0. You need to upgrade to an interface plus device. You may purchase one of these by contacting a Client Services Representative at 800-843-8367.
Q: When I try to download a monitor, TTM tells me, “Cannot Find Monitor.” What is wrong? A: First, verify that the correct monitor type (TT3, TT4) is selected. If it is, you may want to try downloading another monitor to see if the issue is with the system or the monitor itself. For additional troubleshooting assistance, contact Technical Services at 800-843-8367. Q: Will anti-virus software affect my TTM install? A: Yes. For a clean installation, always close any open programs and temporarily disable all anti-virus protection. Install TTM and then turn your anti-virus protection software back on. You may need to restart your PC before the changes will take effect. Q: Will TTM run with Palm Pilot™ software installed? A: The Palm Pilot Desktop application includes a feature called HotSync® which locks open the communications port for its exclusive use, even when the desktop application is closed. To free up the COM port for TTM, follow these steps:
Q: How do I install TTM on a Novell Network? A: Reboot the computer and do NOT log on to the network. Install TTM, and then reboot the computer when prompted. This time, you may log on to the network. Q: How do I view humidity data in the multi-record graph view? A: This answer applies to any dual-sensor TempTale monitor. While viewing the multi-graph, select Secondary in the Sensor panel located at the bottom right of the Graph view. Q: How do I make the dates smaller on the TTM graph printouts? A: Change the font size on the graph by clicking on View from the Menu Bar. Select Graph Options from the drop-down menu. (Note: You must be viewing the Graph to execute Graph Options.) In the dialog box, enter a smaller number in the User Font Scale box.
Q: How do I print Monitor Label numbers on the graph legend? A: Select Administration ‡ User Preferences. Change the option titled “For Tab and Column Headings” to the desired option. Q: Can I change the font in the tabular view printouts? A: Yes, but you must first be in the tabular view. Select File ‡ Print. Within the Print dialog box, there is the option to change both the data and header fonts. Q: How do I know the TTM software is reading data accurately? A: All
Sensitech software products are thoroughly tested before they are released.
