Weather Alert – Tropical Storm Elsa

Location United States Gulf Coast and Southeast

Description Tropical Storm Elsa is currently in the southeastern Gulf of Mexico and is predicted to move north-northwest at approximately 12 mph, affecting Florida through Wednesday before tracking into southeast Georgia, the coastal Carolinas, and southeast Virginia. Flooding rain and damaging winds are expected, along with isolated tornadoes and storm surge. A hurricane watch has been issued for Florida’s west-central and Big Bend coast, though there are no significant changes expected in the forecasted impact should the storm reach hurricane strength.

Recommendation The Sensitech® Supply Chain Intelligence Center (SCIC) recommends shippers continue to monitor developments throughout the week and weekend and confirm if destination facilities in the area will be impacted and have alternate plans for secure staging locations outside of the storm’s path. The SCIC continues to strongly recommend that shippers and manufacturers utilize covert GPS tracking as part of a layered security program to mitigate the risk of theft. In the event cargo is stolen, the ability to provide real-time, accurate location coordinates to law enforcement is an essential component of a successful recovery.
